What Native American civilizations were affected by European exploration? Where did they live? What were important elements to each culture? How did European interactions affect these cultures? What was the Atlantic Slave Trade?

What were the civilizations?

There were 5 main civilizations affected by European explorations. These included the Incas, Aztecs, Mayas, Tainos and Iroquois.

Where were they from?

The Incas were from the west coast of South America near modern day Peru, the Aztecs were from modern day Mexico City, the Mayas from modern day Guatemala, the Tainos from the Caribbean (modern day Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, Jamaica, Cuba and Trinidad) and the Iroquois from modern day upstate New York.

What was important to them?

Each civilization had a unique culture, traditions, language, social structure and customs. Many of the civilizations had a big impact on life today in these regions.

What happened after exploration?

Although the effects of European exploration were varied, most interactions were troubled and although might have started peacefully, often ended in turmoil and war.

What was the atlantic Slave Trade?

The European colonies were built using enslaved labor. As the colonies grew, so did the demand for enslaved people.
From the 1500s to the 1800s, at least 12.5 million Africans were captured and forced onto ships going to the Americas where they were sold.
